Edmonton Disc Jockey for Amen Construction
Dec 27th
December 5, 2009 at the Nisku Inn Edmonton
The Nisku Inn has 2 rooms (1 Bigger and 1 Smaller) and the smaller room seats about 120 people which was perfect for the Amen Construction Christmas Party. The day began with a bit of challenge as it had snowed quite a bit through the night and with a little bit of wind led to some drifting which made it very difficult to get my trailer out of storage. It is always important to give yourself a little extra time when it comes to traveling at this time of the year and today I really needed that extra time.
To make matters a little more challenging, when I arrived at the Nisku Inn the front doors wore not working forcing me to load in a small side door that had a small step which was not helpful when it came to moving all of my equipment.
With all the small things happening I had just enough time to setup my show. The doors opened at 5:30PM and I was ready at 5:20PM. I have played in this room before and what was better this time was the placement of the dance floor. It was right in front of my location which was exactly where I wanted it to be. Last time the dance floor was about 20 feet from where my table could be placed.
With the weather causing everyone a few problems our evening ran a little behind schedule as we waiting for people to come. Dinner started about 1/2 hour late which was just fine as the staff at the hotel rolled with the punches and worked around what the customer wanted.
Dinner started about 7:30 and we had a little fun picking the tables based on who was dressed either in Christmas colours or had on festive attire. The food was very well made and there was a very nice selection of items including porgies which are generally a crowd pleaser. The only thing that would be a little better would have been using both side of the buffet line but only one side of the table was used therefore, taking twice as long to put everyone through the buffet line.
Just after dinner the owner/president of the company said a few words about the past year and was looking forward to 2010 with new contracts coming up that will put Amen Construction in a good place next year.
What I really like about Amen Construction is that they are not only colleges but friends and family. Everyone gets along and is there to relax, kick back, and enjoy themselves. As an Edmonton DJ I consider myself pretty lucky to do what I do. It is a great honor to be invited back year after year by the same company. I am lucky to work with companies like Amen as they are the reason I am still doing this and hope to be back next year… in Canmore.
A special thanks goes out to Lynn and Bob as they are great dancers and break the ice for everyone to enjoy themselves. I wish they could come to every one of my parties as they have such positive energy and are genuinely great people.

Redtail Landing Ceremony & Wedding Reception – Kelly & Justin
Aug 6th
August 2, 2009
Dollar for dollar, Pound for pound, one of the best parties ever.

I have been an Edmonton DJ for almost 10 years and this past weekend was the 1st time I have ever been in the same room 2 nights in a row.
RedTail Landing is a great place to DJ and even made better when you get to leave your gear there over night. The day started out with an outdoor ceremony and the weather looked a little iffy but it all came together for a beautiful ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony was when one of the bridesmaids sang during the signing of the registry. WOW!!!

After the ceremony there was a short reception outside and by about 6 pm we were all back in the main room awaiting another great meal and RedTail Landing. I have been to RedTail a few times and Dean knows I am a bit of a picky eater and made sure that a piece of chicken was BBQ’d up for me. Thanks Dean, I don’t know of any other venue that works to make sure the venders are looked after.

The speeches were extremely well done some of the funniest I can remember.

We then went into the dance and earlier that day I was chatting with Dean and Steve and we were talking about how much harder it is to do parties that are under 100 people. This party had a total of 62 guests and it was on a Sunday night. We took a friendlybet as to the time the party would go to. Steve said 11:30, Dean said 12:30 and I took 1 AM. Boy, it sure feels good to be right. The dance started out great and never let up all night. We started with 60 people and ended with over 30. Kelly and Justin loved to dance and Justin was on the dance floor more than Kelly, usually it is the bride that dances more than the groom. The song of the night was “Kung Fu Fighting” and when the groomsmen were doing all the karate moves I was almost on the floor from laughing.
What surprised me even more was that fact that they were not big drinkers and just loved to have a good time.

Nisku Wedding Disc Jockey at Red Tail Landing – Krista & Dan

August 1, 2009
The night the lights when out in Nisku.

When I rolled into the Red Tail Landing Golf Course that afternoon and was looking forward to hanging out with Dean and his gang. It is always fun to come to the Red Tail Landing Golf Course as I have known Dean now for years. It started out as a typical day and setup, and all went well and I was ready to go by about 5 PM. By about 5:15 the clouds started rolling in with a little rain and that turned to a lot of rain and wind. Right around 5:45 the power went out and did not come right back on, so we started chatting about things and said we would give it a little bit and see what happens. Well, 15 minutes turned to 20 and then 30. The bride and groom arrived about that time and I said that decision needs to be made and I said “I think we need to get the ball rolling and see if we should get a generator.” We made an announcement to the room and we got lucky. A friend of the bride and groom had a welding truck not far away and a staff member for the Red Tail Landing called her dad and we had a second generator on its way.

We ran my P/A off the welding truck and Dean and I ran lighting to the bathrooms and kitchen off the other generator and we were good to go. Dinner was served by candlelight and everyone there took it in stride and dinner went off without a hitch.

I was a little stressed about the slide show as I have built hundreds of slide shows and have always been able to add in some pictures from the day and not getting my computer up and running until about 7 pm put this at risk. Had it not been for the speeches being a little longer than normal I would have never made it. The slide show finished rendering with about 3-4 minutes to spare and it was very well received by the bride and groom and their guests.

The power finally came back on about 9 PM to a thunderous applause. I switched my rig back to the Red Tail Landing power and we started the dance.

Even after being an Edmonton DJ for almost 10 years I can still be surprised. I am not sure if there was something in the water or everyone came ready to have a good time or the power outage but this turned into one of the best parties I have every been a part of. When everything comes together it is magical. Add in the fact that the bride and groom were on the dance floor almost all night long help elevate this party into the stratosphere. Everyone was dancing and have a great time all night long. I thought some of them were going to cry when we finally pulled the plug about 1:30 AM.

To Dan and Krista:
It was great to be a part of such an awesome night. Even with the power going out and challenges we faced early in the night you guys and your guests embraced these things and truly made the best of it. From Mark and his welder and the staff member at the Red Tail having her dad bring a generator to Dean and I running the power to getting lighting everywhere it just came together.
Your party was the success is was in part to you guys. Thanks for thanking the chance with the slide show and add in the fact that you were on the dance floor set the tone and it was fun with the BINGO with the wedding party dance and I will sure to recommend this to other couples.
thanx again having me be a part of your SPECIAL day.
Cheers,
DJ “Jazzy” Greg
